Amy Morrison

What job/study are you doing right now and tell us a little about it?

I am currently studying Midwifery at The University of Manchester. This is a 3 year degree and I am in my first year. As part of this degree I am placed in a hospital carrying out clinical work as well as academic work at the University.

Did you do any further/higher education?

Yes, I went to Carmel College where I received three A levels at grade A in Psychology and Double Health and Social Care. I have completed a previous degree in psychology at The University of Manchester in which I received a 2.1 classification in 2014.

How did you decide on your career path and what is/was most interesting about your work?

I was rather late to decide that I wanted to be a midwife but I think deep down I always knew that this was something I wanted to do from being quite young. I find everything that I do interesting; I get to witness every day miracles and be a part of somebody's family for a short while.

Can you share a couple of fond memories of your time at St Cuthbert's?

My time at St Cuthbert's was a very happy one and I have many memories. I enjoyed my lessons and thought all my teachers were very good and supportive. I remember one particular year where I got the opportunity to sit in the hall and listen to stories from a holocaust survivor, this experience was amazing and I'll never forget it.

Did you have a favourite/influential teacher? What made them so important to you?

Yes, Mr McAuley was a very influential teacher. He made history so interesting and I enjoyed learning. He really motivated us and seemed to care about our grades.

What advice would you give our current students?

You don't have to know exactly what you want to do at this point; you don't have to have a definite career path right now. Things will fall into place and you will get to where you want to be eventually. Just work hard and try to get the grades you need at GCSE as these are more important than you think! Enjoy your time in school because after you leave, everything changes.
